Ford Motor Company
Ford Motor Company, as one of the largest vehicle manufacturers in the world, was looking for a solution that would reduce costs and streamline their review process and approvals of CAD (Computer Aided Design) drawings between Ford and it's tooling and gauge vendors. Ford chose Pandell's Liquid Intelligence platform to deliver this solution.
Situation
The Ford plant was undergoing an expansion of its production capacity. External vendors of tooling and gauging equipment collaborated regularly with Ford engineers on CAD drawings to complete the expansion project. Because the expansion team was scattered across multiple geographic locations, Ford believed the production line could be up and running faster, and at less cost, if they could streamline communications between Ford engineers and their engineering vendors.
Solution
Pandell provides Ford with a secure environment for organizing and collaborating on drawings and techincal information (such as AutoCAD drawings, parts lists, project documents, and cost spreadsheets).
The secure online site acts as a central repository to house all CAD drawings and work-in-process documents. Engineers are able to access the CAD drawings online in web format, make mark-ups or annotations as needed and publish the new documents with changes. The robust search engine allows users to search inside CAD drawings or project documents to quickly and easily find the information they are looking for.
The team always has access to the latest drawings in real-time, removing the need to courier bulky drawings back and forth. The email notification system advises team members of new drawings or changes to existing drawings and specifications.
Results
Ford's custom Pandell Liquid Intelligence application was successfully launched in January of 2003 and has been expanded to include a number of additional Ford manufacturing plants.
With the ability to collaborate virtually, Ford has streamlined their communications between the team of Ford employees and equipment vendors, sped up completion of the expansion project, and realized significant cost savings. Ford's new production line was up and running faster than anticipated.
