As one of the largest commercial contractors in North America, Turner is continually striving to find new ways to reduce costs across their operations while maintaining their reputation as a leader in the industry. Turner selected Pandell to implement their Liquid Intelligence solution for commerce, allowing Turner to effectively track and manage internal purchasing across more than 50 business units.

Situation

With a large number of employees spread across the continent, Turner sought to streamline and more efficently manage their internal purchasing. Traditionally, each business unit purchased their own products, such as hard hats, safety manuals or promotional items from local suppliers.

With each business unit overseeing their own spending, purchasing power was limited and difficult to track. In order to take advantage of volume discounts and easily track spending, Turner needed a new strategic procurement solution.

Solution

Turner selected Pandell to build an easy-to-use procurement site to help reduce purchasing costs and streamline commerce operations across all of its business units. Everything from protective eyeware, to Turner coffee mugs, to training manuals can be ordered, tracked, and billed by employee, job site, and business unit.

Business-to-Business commerce is now accomplished with suppliers of every size with the PLI web-based order management tools. The larger suppliers are fully integrated by connecting their back-end systems with the Turner commerce system. The solution is then in turn connected with Turner's corporate accounting system to automate billing and determine rebates.

Results

Turner has consolidated their purchasing power and is able to visualize and track overall spending at a glance.

Commerce transactions, delivery times, and internal operations have all seen an improvement. Accounting resources have been slashed to a minimum - now a single Turner accountant is able to manage the entire process.

In the first 6 months of operation, a total of 498 different product groups were available for purchase on the system from 7 different suppliers. With the initial return-on-investment proven, more suppliers are quickly being added as new strategic buying arrangements are established.
