John Ramsay

John is a partner in Gowling Lafleur Henderson's Calgary office practising in the area of technology law, acting as counsel to closely held businesses throughout his career and, since 1977, to developers and users of technology, particularly computer software, John has been rated by LEXPERT as one of Canada's leading lawyers in intellectual property and in computer law. John has also been named in the 2002 Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada as one of Canada's leading experts in technology law.

After receiving a business administration degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1963, John attended the University of Toronto, where he received a bachelor of laws degree in 1966. He was admitted to the Ontario and Alberta Bars in 1968, and appointed Queen's Counsel in 1998.

A prolific writer, John is the author of the leading Canadian text, "Technology Transfers and Licensing" published by Butterworths, 1996; "Trade Secrets in Canada" (a chapter in Worldwide Trade Secrets, published by Clark Boardman), "Drafting Confidential Agreements in Canada", published in the Intellectual Property Journal, 1988. John was also co-author of "Shareholder Agreements" in the Alberta Corporations Manual. John has made numerous presentations, including: "Commercialization of Technology and Trade Secrets" to the NATO Science for Peace Workshop, Moscow, 2001; "Valuation of an Idea" to the Westlink Technology Commercialization Internship Program, April 2001; "On-Line Contracting" to the Informatics/Convergence Conference 2001; " Copyright" to the Technology Transfer Conference in Boston, 2001; and "Warranties in the Information Age" at the Best Practices Session of the 1999 and 2000 LES Annual meeting.

John is a member of the Law Society of Alberta, the Canadian Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Canadian IT Law Association, Licensing Executives Society (U.S.A./Canada) Inc., Intellectual Property Institute of Canada and the Computer Law Association (U.S.A.). John is also a member of the Editorial Review Board of les Nouvelles (he writes the regular book reviews), the Journal of the LES and the American Bar Association’s Information Security Committee. John was also Chair, Licensing Executives Society Summer Meeting 2001, and a former Vice President, Canada and Executive member of the Licensing Executives Society (U.S. and Canada), Inc.


Don Robart

Mr. Robart is a practicing Chartered Accountant. For the past fourteen years, Don has applied his accounting skills in his consultancy practice where he has been helping individuals and corporations with planning tax and financial affairs, including retirement and estate planning and developing investment strategies. He has also assisted clients and other professionals on cross-border tax issues and testified as an expert witness in tax accounting.

Previously, Don was a member of an international firm of chartered accountants for 23 years; during 14 of those years he was a partner specializing in Canadian and international tax issues. Mr. Robart graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from Dalhousie university.


Ken Netzel

Ken started Kenonic Controls over 30 years ago, a firm specializing in engineering and field services for industrial automation. As president, Ken built the company to over 300 people performing engineering and field services work around the globe. The sale of the company was completed to Emerson Process Management in 2002.

Ken's expertise includes business strategy, operations and people management. Now semi-retired, Ken splits his time between Calgary and his cattle ranch in Saskatchewan.


Brian Craig

Brian Craig is a Principal of Adventure Capital, a privately held venture capital firm based in Calgary.

Brian has had operating roles in many high-tech companies in Calgary and is the former CEO of Solium Capital Inc., a publicly traded financial services firm based in Calgary. Brian has experience leading several successful start-ups and is a co-founder and director of privately held FX Energy, a Calgary-based oil and gas firm.

Brian is an investor and serves on the Board of several early-stage companies - public, private, energy and technology. He is a passionate architect of emerging businesses with the knowledge, experience and patience to help guide these fragile companies through their early life experiences. The clarity to succeed, the drive to win and the discipline to execute are all common attributes of the companies Brian associates with.

Brian is an engineer with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of New Brunswick (Fredericton).


Tim Sinclair

Tim Sinclair is the President and CEO of Bridge Brand Food Service in Calgary. Bridge Brand is a half billion dollar company that is an industry leader in food service distribution and manufacturing. As a seasoned executive, Tim has led this organization through a number of major initiatives including business restructuring, acquisitions, branding and strategic sourcing.

Prior to his current role, Tim has held senior positions in New York and Toronto with Campbell Soup Company and Gordon Foods, the parent company of Bridge Brand Food Service. He has also served as an officer and board member of the Second Cup Coffee Company.

Tim’s passion is helping build high performance leadership teams and is a member of the Center for Creative Leadership which is a non-profit group focused on leadership development.

Tim holds two business degree’s from the University of Victoria and the University of British Columbia. He also holds an executive diploma in Strategic Planning from the prestigious Wharton School of Business.
