MRC teaches Calgary Hitmen how to score in business
Calgary — Professional athletes spend most of their time focused on excelling in their sport but when their sports careers come to an end, many athletes have not thought about how to excel in business. Mount Royal College is giving the Calgary Hitmen hockey team a crash course in entrepreneurship to help them prepare for their future after hockey, Wednesday, Oct. 18 at the Pengrowth Saddledome.
Mount Royal’s Bachelor of Applied Business and Entrepreneurship — Sports and Recreation program is offering the one-day business school for athletes. Instructors will talk to the players about thinking entrepreneurially while they're still playing hockey so that they can make a smoother transition to investing in business ventures or starting their own companies. This new program is based on a program run by Harvard, Penn State, Stanford and Northwestern for NFL football players.
The seminar will include a panel discussion with Ray Cote, past Edmonton Oiler and current realtor, Gord Sherven, a professional hockey player for four seasons in the NHL and a member of the Canadian Olympic Hockey Team in 1988 who is now a Calgary investment advisor and Greg Chudiak, past Calgary Wranglers player and current President & CEO of the award winning Pandell Technology Corporation.
